Service Area Pages for Tradies

Why Service Area Pages Matter
Want to rank in more suburbs? We build tradie websites with genuinely useful service-area pages and local SEO from day one. Talk to us.
Google tries to show local results that match where the searcher is and what they typed. If you are a Brisbane electrician who works in Chermside, Aspley and Stafford, a single "areas we service" list at the bottom of your homepage gives Google very little to go on. Service area pages, one page per key suburb or region, can help you appear for searches like "electrician Chermside". Done badly, though, they are thin duplicate pages that Google ignores.
When You Should Build Them
Service area pages make sense when:
- You regularly work in several distinct suburbs or regions.
- People search with the suburb name for your trade.
- You can say something genuinely specific about each area.
If you only work in one small area, strong service pages and a well-optimised Google Business Profile usually matter more. See Google Business Profile for tradies.
What to Put on Each Page
Each page should be useful to someone in that suburb. Include:
- A unique introduction about the work you do there (for example, common job types in older Queenslanders or newer estates).
- The services you offer in that area, linking to each main service page.
- Real jobs in the area: photos and a short description, with the customer's permission.
- Practical details: typical response times and hours for that area, if they differ.
- Local FAQs that people actually ask.
- A clear call to action: call button and quote form.
How Not to Build Them
Avoid:
- Copying one page and swapping the suburb name.
- Building pages for suburbs you do not really service.
- Keyword stuffing suburb names into every sentence.
- Pages with no internal links pointing to them.
These pages tend to be ignored, and a large number of them can weaken how Google sees your site.
Linking Area Pages Into Your Site
- Link from your homepage and service pages to your main areas.
- Link from each area page to the relevant service pages.
- Mention areas naturally in blog posts and case studies.

How Many Pages Should You Start With?
Start with the five to ten areas that bring you the most profitable jobs. Make those pages excellent, track enquiries in Search Console and your form data, then expand. Quality beats quantity.
Measuring Results From Area Pages
Area pages are only worth building if they bring work. Track them properly:
- Search Console: filter the Performance report by page to see impressions, clicks and average position for each area page, and which queries trigger it.
- Form and call tracking: record which page each enquiry came from. Many form tools capture the page URL automatically.
- Google Business Profile: watch calls and direction requests, and check whether the suburbs you target appear in your profile's search terms.
- Job value: a page that brings two big jobs a month is worth more than one that brings ten small enquiries. Review results every quarter and improve the pages that bring the best work.
Pages that get impressions but no clicks usually need a better title and description. Pages that get clicks but no enquiries usually need clearer calls to action, local proof or a faster mobile layout.
Example Outline for One Area Page
Here is an outline a plumber could use for a page targeting one suburb:
- H1: Plumber in [Suburb]
- Opening answer: who you are, what you do in [Suburb], how fast you can usually attend, and your phone number.
- Services in [Suburb]: the jobs you actually do there, linking to each main service page.
- Local detail: housing types and common issues (older homes with original pipes, new estates, units with strata rules), and the nearby suburbs you also cover.
- Recent jobs: two or three short descriptions with real photos, without sharing customer addresses.
- Reviews: genuine reviews from customers in or near that area, if you have them.
- FAQs: questions customers in that suburb ask, such as call-out timing, parking or after-hours work.
- Call to action: call button and a short quote form.
If you cannot write something genuinely local for a suburb, it probably should not have its own page yet.
Service Area Page FAQs
Will service area pages get me penalised?
Not if they are useful. Google's spam policies target "doorway" pages: near-identical pages created only to rank for many place names. Unique, helpful pages for areas you really serve are fine.
Do I need an address in every suburb?
No. A service-area business can list the areas it serves in Google Business Profile without a shopfront in each one. Never create fake addresses.
How long do area pages take to rank?
It varies with competition and your site's overall strength. Less competitive suburbs can show movement within weeks; busy areas take longer and need reviews and links too.
